About BeamProfile

A site about everyday-carry flashlights, run by one person, funded by affiliate commissions, and written so you can check the reasoning.

What this site is

BeamProfile covers everyday-carry flashlights and the accessories that go with them: pocket lights, batteries, chargers, clips, diffusers, holsters. That's a deliberately narrow scope. There are sites that cover every light ever made, badly. This one covers a smaller set properly.

It's run by Isaac Torres. Not a team, not a committee — which means the perspective is consistent, and also that it's one person's perspective. Those are the same fact stated twice.

How lights get evaluated

Every review follows the same shape, so you can compare across pages without re-reading:

  1. Who it's for. Stated first, because most disagreements about flashlights are actually disagreements about use case.
  2. What the specs deliver. Including the gap between rated peak output and sustained output, which is where most marketing lives.
  3. Where it falls down. Every light has real limitations. A review that finds none isn't a review.
  4. What to buy instead. Named alternatives for the people this light is wrong for.

On specifications

Where a figure comes from the manufacturer rather than our own measurement, the page says so plainly. This matters more in flashlights than in most categories, because peak lumen ratings describe a state that lasts seconds — the honest question is always what the light sustains.

We prefer brands that publish ANSI FL1 numbers and runtime graphs, and we say so, because a company willing to show you the step-down curve is a company not hiding it.

On scoring

Scores are relative to price and category, not absolute. A 4.5 on a $30 light and a 4.5 on a $200 light are not the same claim — each says "excellent for what it is and what it costs." The written verdict always carries more information than the number, which is why the number is never the whole review.

How this site makes money

Affiliate commissions, primarily through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through a link here, we receive a small percentage. The price you pay is identical either way.

Some ground rules that follow from that:

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed with a note on the page saying what changed and when. Specs change between production runs, products get discontinued, and firmware updates alter behavior. A review that never gets revisited becomes misinformation eventually.
