Read the second number, not the first
ThruNite advertises 405 lumens. That figure is real and it is also brief — the light steps down to roughly 105 lumens for sustained use, with an 18-lumen low below that.
This isn't a criticism, and we'd say the same of any light this size. There is no thermal mass in a 34-gram body and no capacity in a 10440 cell to support 405 lumens for meaningful time. What matters is that the sustained figure is the one you'll live with, and 105 lumens is genuinely enough for the work this light is for: a fuse box, a bag interior, a keyhole, a dark stairwell, the underside of a sink.
A light that honestly delivers 105 lumens for twenty minutes is worth more than one dishonestly claiming 5,000 for ten seconds. Judge budget lights on their plateau.
The 18-lumen low deserves specific credit. Plenty of cheap lights omit a low mode entirely, which makes them useless at night — you get blinded, your night vision resets, and everyone in the house wakes up.
