How we approach a review
Every review on this site follows the same structure so you can compare lights without re-reading a paragraph three times: who it's for, what the specs actually deliver, where it falls down, and what to buy instead if it isn't right for you.
We're specific about the difference between rated and sustained output. A pocket light that advertises 1,400 lumens produces that figure for a handful of seconds before thermal step-down takes over — that's physics, not deception, but it means the number on the box tells you very little about what the light does in the fifth minute. Where we quote manufacturer figures rather than our own measurements, the page says so plainly.
We also tell you when a cheaper light does the same job. Recommending the expensive option every time is how affiliate sites lose the plot.
